With the Mercedes-Benz Magazine App, users can experience all the news about vehicle models, innovations, fashion, lifestyle and designs.

What is not immediately obvious to the user is that behind the scenes the magazine app is managed by a transnational team with complex workflows. Editors, publishers and reviewers are based in more than 15 regions around the world to provide exciting and market-driven content.

The provided content is much more exciting than traditional media content, involving innovative multimedia content, videos, configurations, and much more awaits loyal Mercedes fans.

Challenge

Classic print-to-web solutions are no longer a groundbreaking novelty these days. Instead, most companies introduced digital magazines or catalogues and turned their backs on print versions altogether.

In this project, however, we were faced with the following challenges: On one hand, to build a platform that allows cross-national editorial access, and on the other hand, to offer users greater value compared to purely digitalised magazines or catalogues.

Respecting the former format and presentation was important in this case, since Daimler AG, as a multinational company is present in diverse markets. The content must therefore be adaptable to the individual target regions. This is the only way to actually ensure added value for customers and loyal Mercedes fans.

Solution

In order to overcome these challenges and to create real benefits for the users, we developed an Interactive Publishing Suite. This was the only way we could enable a smooth process of the complex, transnational workflows of editors, publishers and reviewers of the content.

To make the content more exciting for the respective target group, we built interactive functions into the application. This content was delivered in a multimedia format, including configurators, videos, interactive hotspots, and 360° views.

Impact

Through the creation of a central yet multinational digitisation platform for magazines and sales literature, content can now be created and adapted in different markets. Over 15 markets with more than 20 agencies had access to localise and customise the content for each market. The complex in-house workflows can now be controlled in a targeted yet centralised way.

The multimedia content also added genuine value for the app’s users. Unlike conventional digital catalogues, the app was expanded with a variety of innovative functions. Users are now provided with the latest news on vehicle models, fashion, lifestyle or design in an innovative way every 3 months.
